So obviously I spend my sick downtime looking across autotrader for a second car for my old man.

I’ve come across a couple of Land Cruisers in decent nick and want some opinions from the Toyota bods please.

Well one is an early 90s SWB LJ70 Prado, the other is an early 90s LWB LJ70 Prado that is £1,000 cheaper but lists an engine that has never been offered in the Prado.

As it’s an import, I didn’t know if was an engine offered only in Japan?

As far as I am aware Prados were only offered with four cylinder engines. If it were a 4.0 Diesel the engine bay should show a six cyinder 2H, but the engine seen in the ad is clearly a regular 2L-T four.

I’ve just noticed the description says 2.5 as well, so the the 4.0 is either bait or a mistake.

I would look for a manual 4 door then. Since the diesel is a torquey little motor the manual could be kept in its powerband better. Also, it’s not being daily driven, why not make it more fun? Also make sure it’s a SR5 or whatever the non US version is because that means Inclinometer like both you posted.

The “full size” six cylinder Land Cruisers have narrower front fenders since they use leaf springs instead of coils like the Prado

There’snot many about buy I’ll keep my eyes open. I would endeavour to suggest he keeps this thing bone stock, unless modification was not what you meant in ‘more fun’? The odd time he’s been off road it’s just been in my car.

They’re definitely worth keeping stock. My dad and I have been looking at them for a while to import into the US. The manuals are going to be worth more in the future too.

I’ll have a proper look tonight and where all the manuals are at. Knowing my luck, Japan.

Yeah that’s exactly where we would have to import one.
